Tarja is set to release a new album that promises to deck the halls with a different kind of holly. Aptly titled “Dark Christmas,” the album is a follow-up to her 2017 venture, “From Spirits and Ghosts (Score for a Dark Christmas),” and it’s poised to stir up the snow this festive period with an orchestral and gothic spin on Christmas classics.
Tarja, known for her genre-defying approach, is not holding back with this collection. The album is poised to include a fascinating mix of yuletide anthems, reimagined through a lens that’s both grandiose and slightly unnerving. Expect to hear a haunting rendition of Wham!’s “Last Christmas,” a mysterious take on Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” and a shadowy version of Paul McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmastime,” among other beloved tunes like “Jingle Bells” and “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer.”
Tarja is also introducing an original track titled “Dark Christmas,” adding her own signature to the season’s soundtrack. She commented on the project, noting the thrill of crafting these songs with a unique twist, in collaboration with esteemed creatives Jim Dooley and Tim Palmer. Their goal: to present these holiday staples in a way that’s refreshingly novel and slightly eerie.
The album’s unveiling is coupled with an ambitious visual component – 12 music videos, one for each track, culminating in a full-length film featuring DOLBY ATMOS audio, for a completely immersive experience.
Kicking off the release, Tarja presents “Frosty The Snowman” as the album’s lead single, complete with a music video. This isn’t your childhood’s Frosty, though. In Tarja’s world, the cheerful snowman takes a walk through a wintry night’s landscape that’s as enchanting as it is mysterious, blending the familiar joy of the season with an air of gothic elegance.
Fans of Tarja and those with an appetite for the avant-garde can look forward to a Christmas experience that steps off the beaten path and into the shadows, where the glow of Christmas lights might just flicker a little differently.
