Norway’s very own pop/rock ensemble, Kalandra, has graced the music world with a fresh single that goes by the name “Bardaginn.” Derived from words that signify “fight” or “battle,” the title delves into the complexities of human struggle—whether those challenges are internal or manifest in the physical world. As if the soul-stirring tune isn’t enough, the release also features a visually appealing music video, a creation of Ragnarok Film.
When it comes to the lyrical inspiration behind “Bardaginn,” vocalist Katrine had an intriguing idea in mind. Fascinated by the potential to craft lyrics that would withstand the test of time, she sought the expertise of Alexander Lykke, a Norwegian lyricist and language consultant. Together with the musical talents of guitarists Jogeir and Florian as well as drummer Oskar, the team concocted a musical piece that diverges significantly from Kalandra’s previous works.
For our next single release we all knew it was important for us to try and challenge ourselves creatively, and yet still somehow manage to keep that light playfulness in the creative process, where absolutely anything was allowed. Although it at times seemed like an impossible task to piece together, it feels as if we’ve managed to really pull out the best in every member of the band, and really showcase what we’re made of, both individually and as a team.
Bardaginn is fun, but also bloody serious. We’re very proud of each other and what we’ve made, and we can’t wait to play it live.
