The Glory and the Beast tour was a co-headline tour featuring some of the most exciting power metal bands in the scene, Beast in Black, Gloryhammer, and Brothers of Metal. The tour started in January 2024 in Stockholm, and visited a ton of cities across Europe, such as Zurich, Milan, Oberhausen, and Paris. The tour ended with a sold out bang in London, where the bands delivered an epic and unforgettable show, and I must say, it was a monumental experience to see live.
Before the main acts took the stage, the crowd was greeted by a band of Viking warriors who claimed to be their new rulers. They were Brothers of Metal, a Swedish power metal band who have been entertaining us for quite a few years now. This is seriously one of the most fun bands to listen to, and to see live. And their insanely catchy songs, play so well in front of a live audience. The crowd participation for this act was incredible, they wanted more, and more.
The band is a paradox in many ways. They are aware of their over-the-top image and embrace it with humor and enthusiasm, but they are also serious about their music and deliver high-quality performances, and more importantly great music. It’s kind of a real head scratcher when you think about it.
Because yes, there’s some humor in some of their songs, but they make genuinely great music, while having an over the top aesthetic. This is vastly different from what we see from other bands, or TikTok Vikings that try to come off as authentic but, just kind of fall flat. Brothers of Metal have managed to make the polar opposite end of that spectrum, work, and it works well.
Gloryhammer have also evolved quite a bit, and they have been stealing the stage in every place they’ve been playing lately. They also put out one of our favorite power metal albums of the year with Return to the Kingdom of Fife, which it was awesome to finally see some of those songs live. You get everything from goblins, to castles, to unicorns, when you see a Gloryhammer show live and in person.
Let me get straight to the point and address the Beast in the room. There is no denying it, and you have probably heard it over and over again. Yannis Papadopoulos is a vocal legend in the metal scene. He has the skill, the range, and the power to blow your mind. If you are a fan of heavy metal and power metal, you must have dozens and dozens of Beast in Black songs on your playlist.
And you might wonder, is he really that good live? The answer is yes. He delivers an astounding performance that will leave you speechless. It’s actually quite surreal to witness in person. And the rest of the band, they rock the stage with their energy and passion. They are one of the most thrilling live acts in the whole metal genre.
This was the first major concert I attended this year, and it was a phenomenal experience. The crowd was buzzing with excitement, and it was awesome to see so many people enjoying themselves and belting out the lyrics. This was a fantastic lineup and I one I hope we get to relive again.
