Going to a concert on a Monday can certainly discourage some, but Luxembourg still turned up at the Rockhal for a concert bringing together some amazing acts; Delain, Xandria and Illumishade.
First up were Illumishade. The brainchild of Fabienne Erni (Eluveitie). Away from the folk influences, we’re here listening to a fusion of heacy rock and metal. These modern music influences mixed with an energetic stage presence certainly make for a great show. Some songs could even remind me of some Arch Enemy rhythmics now and then, and it was definitely an amazing opening act. We should also note that the bands debut album, “ECLYPTIC: Wake of Shadows,” was Folk N Rocks pick for album of the year.
Next up were Xandria. Ambre Vourvahis, the new vocalist, did address the audience in French, which was clearly something people enjoyed. However, she had to inform us that the drummer had to go back to his home and that therefore the band were not able to do their show as planned. Instead, they had managed to setup a quick acoustic set, which, was on short notice and was amazing for a band that didn’t have time to rehearse much (if at all).
Despite the toned-down show compared to some of the expectations, it was a very nice and intimate moment. You can also check out an interview with Ambre Vourvahis about the bands latest album.
Finally, the main act, Delain, took to the stage. Lit-up mic stands, light show, smoke, the contrast with the acoustic set was pretty impressive. Although they announced they would play a lot of recent music, it cannot be said that old classics were missing, from Suckerpunch to The Gathering. Punchy, catchy, infectious, these are songs that will stay in your head and which you’ll still be humming at breakfast on the next day, getting ready for a day of normal work.
To note, the appearance of Paolo Ribaldini, the Finnish Italian, guest singer on several of the newest singles (such as Beneath), all clad in black, powerful voice at the ready to support Diana Leah, the Romanian Italian singer who joined Delain last year. And to tell the truth, she has really adapted to the band quickly and had done an amazing job.
