The longboats arrived on November 11th as Swedish melodic death metal act Amon Amarth kicked off their Great Heathen Army tour in Las Vegas. The tour which features Carcass, Obituary, and Cattle Decapitation, is one of the most stacked tours in recent memory, as well as one of the most talked about.

On November 25th, the guys arrived at the Fillmore in Detroit where they would put on one of the most intense and brutal performances we’ve seen in recent memory. First up was Cattle Decapitation, who just recently performed their new track ‘We Eat our Young,’  live for the first time. Which tells us that a new record is the cards for some time in 2023. The bands previous release, Death Atlas, was chosen as one of Folk N Metals best albums of 2019.

Obituary hit the stage next, and the Florida death metal act just recently announced a follow up to their 2017 album. Fans will be happy to hear that Dying of Everything will be out on January the 13th via Relapse Records. The band has already released the first single, as well as a video.

Liverpool extreme death metal legends Carcass put on an incredible performance. Something of note was the incredible drumming of Daniel Wildling, and everyone else was fantastic. The band are touring in support of their most recent album, Torn Arteries. Earlier this spring, the group actually went on a headlining tour for the album, which was their first in six years for the states.

And lastly, it was time for Amon Amarth. By now, you’ve probably heard the same stories a million times over, about how amazingtheir shows are. From their stage setup, to the setlist, to the fan interaction, they are notorious putting on one of the most incredible live shows in all of metal.

The band is touring in support of their latest album, The Great Heathen Army, which might be one of the most brutal albums to date. The new release has gotten high praise, and has seen numerous charting positions. The band will continue to play out a handful of dates throughout the US, before they wrap up on December 17th at the Kia Form in Los Angeles CA.

This was one of the most talked about tours of the year, and without a doubt the most stacked. It’s also one you do not want to miss if you’re in one of the remaining cities the bands will be raiding.
