Indie-pop project dayaway, consisting of Amber Renee from CLAVVS and Grammy-winning producer Graham Marsh, is set to make waves with the release of their new single and music video titled “I Wish” on May 17th. The track will serve as a precursor to their forthcoming EP, “Blue Summer Moon,” scheduled to be released on August 30th. As part of this exciting release, we are thrilled to premiere their latest creation, the single and video for, “I Wish.”
“I Wish” is an alluring track that seamlessly merges the captivating elements of dream synth pop with the infectious vibes of surf rock. With its catchy melodies, heartfelt lyrics, and an undeniable nostalgic charm, this song takes listeners on an emotional journey, epically since it’s one many can relate to.
The song delve into the complexities of unrequited love and the struggles of suppressing feelings, expressing their longing and yearning for someone who is already committed to another person. With an internal conflict and the desire to escape from these intense emotions. The song’s instrumentation perfectly complements the lyrical content, creating a sonic landscape that immerses the audience in a dreamy upbeat atmosphere.
About the track, Amber comments:
I wish’ is about being down bad for someone you can’t have. It’s super playful, but it’s also an angry fist-shake to the sky kind of song. You’re mad at yourself and you’re mad at the person you’ve fallen for and you’re mad at the circumstances. Most of the time, you can’t control who you love or when, so this song tackles the frustration of that experience.
We made the video with that energy in mind. It’s part playful, part totally annoyed. We shot all around Queens, from Flushing Meadows Park to Jacob Riis Beach.
Last year, dayaway introduced themselves to the music scene with their self-titled debut EP, which garnered attention with singles such as “Cool Water.” The track not only received extensive streaming success, amassing over 5 million streams across various platforms, but it was also featured on ABC’s “A Million Little Things” and included in popular playlists on Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music.
As the curtain rises on dayaway’s new chapter, we eagerly anticipate the release of “Blue Summer Moon” later this year. It’s such to be a testament to their artistic growth and commitment to creating a sonic tapestry that immerses us in their world of blissful melancholy. Keep an eye on dayaway as they are sure to deliver great new material later this year.
