Today, we are thrilled to be premiering the music video for Jeremy Facknitz’s new song “Broad Strokes” featuring fellow singer/songwriter Edie Carey. The song is from Jeremy’s upcoming album titled “Smilin’ At The Future”, set to be released later this month on March 31, 2023.
“Broad Strokes” is a track that Jeremy composed during an online songwriters’ group session with fellow Kerrville New Folk finalists in 2020. The prompt for the song was “brush,” and it tells the story of a tremendously gifted painter who only focuses on the lack in her life, such as notoriety and money, leading to her despair. The song features Jeremy’s signature poetic lyrics and Edie’s beautiful vocals, creating a beautiful and introspective piece.
He comments on the track saying:
“In an effort to broaden my subject matters, I joined an online songwriter’s group of fellow Kerrville New Folk finalists in 2020. The prompt of ‘brush’ became track 5, ‘Broad Strokes’ (featuring Edie Carey). It paints a picture of a woman who’s a tremendously gifted painter, but she only focuses on the lack in her life (notoriety, money), and so she falls into despair.”
“She’ll use a brush of each size, on a shadow at play and the light it implies, but she paints her own life with such broad, broad strokes, the deepest shade of blue ’til nothing else shines through… I suppose I do that too, sometimes….” Yeah, this song is totally 100% about me.
Facknitz sees himself in this character, admitting that sometimes he also paints his own life with such broad strokes that nothing else shines through. With its introspective lyrics and personal connection, “Broad Strokes” is a powerful addition to Facknitz’s upcoming album, Smilin’ At The Future.
The album, “Smilin’ At The Future,” is a ten-song commentary on our current-day confusion, exploring themes such as our political dystopia, personal triumphs and failures, and our continued awakening. Produced by Jarrod Headley and recorded at Northpark Studios in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the album promises to be an emotional journey through Jeremy’s unique perspective and experiences.
