The folk metal landscape is set for another major release. Artist Myrkur has officially announced the release of her upcoming album, “Spine,” scheduled for October. This comes as the much-awaited follow-up to her 2020 album “Folkesange,” which was heralded by Folk N Rock as the best folk album of the year.

For the production of “Spine,” Myrkur has collaborated with Randall Dunn, a previous associate from her 2017 album “Mareridt.” The duo chose Sigur Rós’s Icelandic studio, Sundlaugin, as the recording venue, ensuring a blend of their combined artistic vision and the ambiance of the chosen studio.

“Myrkur’s “Spine” will be available in various formats for fans and collectors. Options include different colored vinyls, the traditional black vinyl, CD, and of course, digital formats.

Coinciding with the album announcement, Myrkur released the first single from “Spine,” titled “Like Humans.” Regarding the inspiration behind the track, Myrkur expressed, “When I wrote ‘Like Humans’ I felt very disconnected and isolated from the human race. The challenges of early motherhood made me yearn for a deeper connection with the earth and fellow humans. The process of writing and recording this album aided in healing and realizing that aspiration.”
