Heilung, the experimental folk collective known for their memorable live rituals, has announced the upcoming release of a new live album, “Lifa Iotungard.” The album, recorded at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre in October 2021, is set to be released on CD and vinyl on August 9, 2024. Pre-orders and pre-saves are available now.
The performance at Red Rocks Amphitheatre was a landmark event for Heilung, with the band’s unique blend of ancient sounds and modern instrumentation creating a special atmosphere for the audience. “Remember that we all are brothers,” Heilung recites during their opening ceremony, “All people, beasts, trees, and stones and wind. We all descend from the one great being.”
The album’s centerpiece, “Traust,” erupts in a powerful surge of throat singing, primal rhythms, and mystic chants. This song—which first appeared on their second studio album Futha—transports you back to a time of ancient magic and connection to the natural world. Christopher Juul, Maria Franz, Kai Uwe Faust, and their band of musicians, armed with the wisdom of the ages, create a performance that resonates deep within the your soul.
