Today we’re bringing you the exclusive premiere of the second single, and video for “She Likes To Party” from Portland-based rock act, Kris Rodgers and the Dirty Gems. The song is an original track written by Kris Rodgers (piano, vocals), Tom Hall (guitar), and Ryan Halliburton (bass), and with drummer Craig Sala.
Rodgers spoke briefly about the track by saying:
She Likes to Party’ is all about lettin’ loose! I don’t know what it is, but this song gets people out of their shell.
That certainly seems like an understatement, as this is a track that appears to have everything to get someone out of their shell. This fusion packed beat has everything from a groovy baseline, a talk box like vocal effect, random flutes, and infectious course, a great piano riff, and a Charles Barkley sample (yes, you read that right), so this is definitely a song that has something that’s going to bring a smile to your face.
The song is available on Wicked Cool Records (the label of the great Stevie Van Zandt’s of the E Street Band, The Sopranos, Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul) it is currently available on streaming services at the following link.
Be sure to watch for the bands next album, which will be released next year!
Kris Rodgers and the Dirty Gems released their first single on Wicked Cool Records, Every Little Crack, in 2018. “Wicked Cool Records is obviously the coolest label around.” Rodgers says, “Little Steven and his team help bring out some of the best in up and coming rock n roll stars, and we’re proud to be a part of the roster.” Van Zandt named ‘Every Little Crack’ the Coolest Song of 2018 on his radio station, Little Steven’s Underground Garage (SiriusXM ch.21, and syndicated radio show).
In March of 2019, the band played at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City as part of the Underground Garage’s dance party, which was streamed live to Facebook.
The band has also opened for Smash Mouth in 2016 and Eddie Money in 2017. Rodgers has played in a number of acclaimed power pop bands over the years, such as The Connection, Scott Sorry, and The New Trocaderos. He formed the Dirty Gems in 2011, and the band has been releasing music ever since. Rodgers says of the band, “The sound of The Dirty Gems is just like the name. Polished, but rough around the edges.” She Likes To Party is the
latest single to demonstrate the band’s unique rock and roll sound. It was released on July 10, 2020 digitally and on splatter vinyl.
