Today we’re pleased to bring you the exclusive first look and listen to the new track from electronic/darkwave progressive rock act, AL1CE. The song ‘Electrical,” is the first track that came to be from the group’s upcoming album, “As Above, So Below.” The song is available for purchase at the following link, and also for streaming, here.
The music video was a vision of the band and visual effects artist Clint Carney who has worked on movies Gone Girl, The Coverfield Paradox, and Dry Blood. Clint came up with the storyline of the animated robots in the cave for the music video.
As in the allegory of Plato’s cave, the robots represent the call to find truth in the world of illusion. The tethered chains from the robots play into the over-arching theme of “As Above, So Below” in the breaking of chains and finding of freedom.
Vocalist Tash Cox spoke about the song by saying:
The “Electrical” release, art created in the peak of the pandemic, is an amalgamation of blood, sweat, tears, hope, and above all else, LOVE. While the song itself tells the story of a darker side of love and reality, the creation itself channels the energy, talent, and passion of our little AL1CE family. We are beyond grateful to have had a chance to make this collaborative art with our collective creative family, and we’re thrilled to get to share this piece with our community who continues to be so loving and supportive. Big shoutout to our Mad Hatters army… .ya’ll make this all oh so meaningful and oh so worth it!
The band will also Be hosting a live stream tomorrow at 7 PM PDT, in which they will do some interviews with the cast and crew, The group will also be doing a few contests and giveaways for members of the Mad Hatter Army, which you can join up at the following link. You can catch the live streams on the band’s Twitch, Facebook, and Youtube socials.
More about the song:
While we were in the middle of a summer 2019 tour, we lucked out one night by staying at a hotel that happened to have a hot tub. In proper AL1CE family fashion, we decided to all slap on face masks and proceeded to spend hours hanging out and talking, after what had been a really long and tiring (albeit very awesome) tour.
We were exhausted, but that moment represented an example of what a family our band is. I find that inspiration comes to me in strange and special moments. While everyone else was going to bed or getting ready, the first verse came to me in a moment of inspiration that I refer to as “the whispers,” when I literally hear the whispers of lyrics and melody.
I grabbed my phone and snuck into the stairwell to sing the first bits, barely able to sleep from the excitement of hearing the song for the first time. After we came back from tour, I played around with it on the piano before sharing the idea with Scott. He, in turn, began to shape a deep groove and beautiful electronic production around it.
As a band, we began to flush out the song at Steve’s studio (our drummer). We finalized the whole thing when we went on a creative retreat in Joshua Tree, home to many moments of inspiration for us.
