Finnish progressive metal band, Amorphis, has announced the release of their third live album, “Queen Of Time (Live At Tavastia 2021)”, scheduled for October 13, 2023, via Atomic Fire. The announcement was accompanied by the release of the live version of their single, ‘Amongst Stars,’ featuring vocals from guest singer Anneke van Giersbergen and the band’s lead vocalist, Tomi Joutsen.
The band has had a notable presence at some of the prominent summer festivals, including performances at Germany’s Wacken Open Air and Belgium’s Alcatraz Festival.
The upcoming live album captures performances from 2021, a year heavily impacted by the corona pandemic. The music industry faced unprecedented challenges, leading many artists to explore alternative performance platforms. Amorphis was among the bands that pivoted to virtual concerts, holding two streaming performances at Helsinki’s legendary Tavastia Club.
Reflecting on the experience, the band’s keyboard player, Santeri “Sande” Kallio, noted that while the absence of a live audience made the atmosphere different, the band members leaned into the music, focusing fully on their performance. In Kallio’s words, the band had to rely on the energy derived from their ensemble and the essence of the songs they played.
Fans and followers of Amorphis can now pre-order “Queen Of Time (Live At Tavastia 2021)”. The album promises to deliver a comprehensive representation of the band’s resilience and adaptability in a year marked by global disruptions.
