They’ve always been one of my favorite live bands to photograph, and for good reason. So when I spoke with John Notto of Dirty Honey recently, we jumped into discussing some of those classic albums that not only shaped their musical identity but also laid the groundwork for their latest live record, which is now available. It was great to hear how the band consciously brought that familiar, authentic live rock and roll feel from their new release.
As we explored the memories of their massive world tour, John shared some moments. Each stop had its own personality, but certain nights stood out distinctly, capturing something special that they felt absolutely needed to be immortalized in the live album. John described how they worked to ensure the same genuine feel came through clearly on the live recording, making it a true reflection of that original style.
During our talk, John recalled specific memorable moments from their extensive world tour, emphasizing how these experiences played a key role in choosing the shows that made it onto the live album. He explained the thoughtful process behind these selections, highlighting how the band carefully evaluated each performance to best represent their live energy. And how important it is to sometimes, leave on some imperfections to give it more of an authentic feel.
Additionally, John shared details about a mini-documentary series now available on YouTube. These videos offer fans an exclusive look at their tour experiences, giving insight into what life is like on the road and providing behind-the-scenes footage of the band’s travels and daily routines.
Ultimately, this live album not only highlights some awesome performances. It encapsulates an entire tour filled with passion and unforgettable experiences, carefully handpicked and mix together to share the true spirit of their live shows.
