Emma Ayzenberg steps into a new chapter with her music with the release of ‘hero,’ which is now available on all major streaming platforms which you can check out via the following link. This release is aslo the harbinger of Ayzenberg’s upcoming EP, ‘Iron Mountain.’ The EP is scheduled to grace your ears of on January 24th, 2024.

In discussing her new single ‘hero,’ Emma Ayzenberg reveals the layers of meaning and intention behind the track:

I originally wrote ‘hero’ for those of us who yearn for collective healing. I began as a contemplative ode for climate justice — for the communities, cities, animals, trees, skies, oceans, suffering the impacts of our indifference. It’s a rumination on the personal agency we squander while watching the world burn. Since I first wrote it in 2021, it’s gone through a few iterations of arrangements and recordings over the last year or so, and with that, new and deeper meanings. Today ‘hero’ asks, who are we, if we are only for ourselves?

‘hero’ kicks off with a vibe that’s easy to sink into. The opening strums of the guitar are mellow, creating a laid-back, almost dreamy atmosphere. It’s the kind of sound that’s perfect for those moments when you just want to drift away in thought. The backdrop to this is a subtle, almost buzzing ambiance. It’s not in-your-face but adds a nice touch, giving the track a bit of an edge while keeping things chill.

Ayzenberg’s voice fits right into this mix. She’s got a soft style that really works with the gentle guitar. It’s smooth, easy on the ears, and gets you hooked without trying too hard. But there is a little bit of a twist, just as you’re settling into this tranquil vibe, the chorus the song shifts gears. We’re talking heavy distortion that really changes it up. It’s a cool contrast to the softer start, like waking up from a dream into something more intense.

Along with this change in sound, the tempo picks up a bit. It’s not super fast, but it’s got more groove, more body. The song goes from something you’d relax to, to a track that’s got a bit more bite.

Overall, ‘hero’ is a neat blend of soft and hard elements. It’s like Ayzenberg’s taking you on a mini journey within a single track, starting off smooth and then shaking things up. It’s this mix that makes ‘hero’ stand out – it’s got variety and feels like a cohesive piece. As for the lyrics, this discussion isn’t just ecological, it’s also deeply personal.

She sets up this scene where you can almost feel the night’s vibe, mixed with a hint of something more serious – like a nudge to pay attention to what’s going on around us. There’s this line in there that makes you think. It’s like she’s asking about leadership and our part in the big picture. It’s the kind of question that gets you wondering about your own impact and what you’re following or leading in life.

Throughout the song, Ayzenberg drops in these bits about the environment. Not only is it poetic – it’s real talk about the climate stuff we’re facing. The way she talks about a ‘new kind of hero’ feels like she’s pointing to how we need to change our game to tackle these big challenges. It’s like Ayzenberg’s giving us a snapshot of the world as it is, and maybe a nudge to think about where we stand in all of it.

With ‘hero,’ Ayzenberg proves her knack for crafting songs that are both soothing and strikingly powerful, and we have more to look forward to with the upcoming EP release. Again, the song is now available and the link again for you to check it out.
