Dark folk outfit Heilung recently kicked off their North American tour in support of their latest studio release, ‘Drif.’ Last night under a full moon, the group brought the Amplified History tour to the Masonic Temple in Detroit for a ritual. What Heilung does in the studio is beautiful, and what they do in a live setting is on another level. There’s a reason we consider their 2017 release ‘Lifa,’ to be possibly the best live album we’ve ever listened to.
However, getting to witness a ritual first hand is something that’s almost indescribable. While putting in your headphones and listening to “Lifa” is certainly the next best thing, being there for the ritual is something you need to experience. From the opening ceremony to the closing, Heilung brought amazing music, stunning visuals, and gorgeous costumes.
Along with fire and thundering drums, one of the best parts of the ritual was the connection with the audience. The audience participation was particularly something that stood out. With a sea of smoke that rushed over us, and the crowd chanting along and dancing, you became immersed in the ritual, as we were just as much a part of it as Heilung.
They will be performing a few more dates in the US throughout September, as well as one in October which you can check out below. In November they will also be kicking off their European Tour which will wrap up in mid-January. And finally, they have a few dates currently scheduled for the UK and Ireland as well.
